Bridge No.64 - Casthorpe

Before restoration

This was the site of the 1989 Trail Boat Rally which generated significant interest in the canal.

During restoration

Old concrete deck removed. A temporary bridge was provided for pedestrians, but the road was closed to traffic for some weeks. The bridge carries the Sedgebrook to Denton road.

New approach embankments are starting to be built, with the frame work for the new bridge in place

After restoration

The bridge was restored to a very high standard of construction. Looking stark at first, vegetation has now grown up around the bridge and approach embankments so it blends in much better.
